Welcome to Bushypark National School

“To be the best that we can be”

“In St. James’ N.S., Bushypark, each person, through positive learning experiences, will be stimulated to achieve his/her full potential, in an atmosphere which promotes a sense of mutual respect, responsibility and self-esteem in each pupil and member of staff. Everyday, we support each other, “to be the best that we can be“, at school and in life”

St. James’ National School better known as Bushypark National School, is located a short drive from Galway city. The school has a large catchment area – pupils travel from Knocknacarra, Barna, Salthill, Newcastle, Moycullen and many other parts of the city.

We are a co-educational primary school with a large student population. We boast a state of the art, modern, bright and high-tech school building. We have 16 classrooms, numerous support teaching rooms, a well-resourced library, school hall, large playground, garden, outdoor learning areas as well as a full-sized Astro turf pitch. Each day, every child has the option of getting a hot meal thanks to the governments ‘Hot School Meals Pilot Project’. We are also very fortunate to have a pre-school as well as a before and after school service, which is used by many of our families.

We are a friendly, inclusive and welcoming school and take great pride in adhering to our school motto and enabling our students “to be the best that we can be”. We are lucky to have a dedicated, hard-working and enthusiastic staff, fantastic children and a very supportive Parents Association who are actively involved in many of our school initiatives.

There are numerous extra-curricular and after-school activities of both a sporting and non-sporting nature available in our school including Speech & Drama, STEM Club, Basketball, Chess, Piano, Music Classes, Gaelic Football, Hurling, Arts & Craft etc. We participate in many competitions with other schools such as Football, Hurling and Camogie and have enjoyed much success down through the years.
Bushypark National School has a very active Parents Association who assist with fundraising, our school library, garden and many other activities. We have a very supportive Board of Management who give voluntarily of their time to contribute to the successful running of the school.
In summary, we are a welcoming school, with modern high-tech facilities. We adopt a child-centered approach to teaching and learning with an emphasis on active learning. Our school aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, with an array of curricular and extra-curricular activities which greatly enhances the holistic development of the children in our school.
