All parents of children attending the school belong to the Parents’ Association. During the September of each new school year the Parents’ Association AGM is held. At this the Chairperson of the previous year’s committee talks about the work of the committee in the previous year, and the Treasurer provides an overview of the accounts. During the AGM a new committee is elected and a date set for the first committee meeting of the year at which officers will be elected. There are three officers, the Chairperson, the Secretary and the Treasurer. Each officer is encouraged to remain in the role for a maximum of 3 years to allow for some continuity. It is actively encouraged that the committee is made up of Mums and Dads of Junior Infants children through to 6th class, so that the whole school is represented. A list of committee members is circulated to the school. If anyone has any queries or topics they would like discussed or would like to get involved with the library or garden they should contact a committee member or email stjamesnsparentass@gmail.com.
What happened last year…
The Parents’ Committee is actively involved in many aspects of school life and raises funds for the school. This year the Committee organised the school Christmas cards designed by the children. The committee with help from other parents runs the swimming, the school garden including making soup and the library. We provided refreshments at the school open day for the new Junior infants and their parents and for the grandparents of 1st class on Grandparents Day. We ran a second- hand uniform sale on the morning of the Open day and at the end of the summer term, plus we helped with the book rental scheme. The committee with the help of parents of 3rd class organise a party for the children in 2nd class on the day of the First Holy Communion. This has been run for the last six years and has been a great success. The committee occasionally organises guest speakers to come in to talk to parents about topics such as cyberbullying and the move from primary to secondary school. For the past four years the parents’ association has paid for the sixth classes to take part in workshops to help with the transition to secondary school.
The parents’ committee is always looking for new members or volunteers to help with all these activities so if you are interested please come to the AGM to hear about what we do.
Thankyou for all your support.
